Jake Zamansky Interview Regarding Landmark Case Win in Stratton Oakmont v. Prodigy Services
Interviewed on my landmark 1996 case win in Stratton Oakmont v Prodigy Services.
The case was the first successful online defamation lawsuit in which Prodigy, an online service provider, was held liable as a “publisher” of false and defamatory content posted on its service.
The case garnered worldwide attention and resulted in the US Congress passing legislation called “Section 230” of the Communications Decency Act of 1996, granting legal immunity to online service providers ( like Prodigy and America-Online , the two largest providers at the time). The legislation is now under attack by forces that want online services to screen for illegal or offensive content.
